How to Block Spam and Unwanted Senders

DigiCloudMail TeamAugust 12, 2026 2 min read

A clean inbox is a productive one. Here's how to block spam and unwanted senders effectively - and the difference between the tools you have for it.

Let the filter do the heavy lifting first

Most spam should never reach you. A good email host runs multi-layer filtering - reputation, heuristics and machine learning - that stops the vast majority of junk before it arrives. See how to stop spam and phishing in business email. Anything that slips through is where your own tools come in.

Block a specific sender

To stop one persistent sender, add them to your blocklist (block sender) in your webmail or mail app. Future mail from that address goes straight to spam or is rejected. Good for an individual nuisance; less useful against spammers who change addresses constantly.

Use rules for patterns

Spam from ever-changing addresses is better handled with filters that match patterns - a subject phrase, a keyword, or a whole domain - and send matches to spam automatically. See how to set up email filters and rules.

Report, don't just delete

When spam or phishing reaches you, use "report spam" rather than simply deleting it. Reporting trains the filter and improves detection for everyone. For dangerous mail, know the warning signs - see how to spot a phishing email.

Reduce the spam you invited

A lot of "spam" is actually mail you once opted into. Unsubscribe from what you don't read, and consider using an alias for sign-ups so you can cut it off later. See how to reduce inbox overload and email aliases vs shared mailboxes.

Don't block the good stuff

Occasionally a wanted message lands in spam. Keep important senders flowing by whitelisting them - see how to whitelist email senders.

Clean inbox, strong filtering

DigiCloudMail combines powerful spam and phishing filtering with easy blocking, rules and reporting - so the junk stays out and the mail you need gets through.
